The Nervous Braindown Podcast – Episode 4 – Should We Be Worried About Artificial Intelligence

After almost a year long hiatus, The Nervous Braindown Podcast is back!

The buzz on my Twitter feed is all about podcasts. I couldn’t help but get the itch to record another episode. It was fun. Between the technical difficulties and the cursing I was finally able to put together this episode in a few days.

The length of the original cut was just over 20 minutes. The first 6 and a half minutes I did a bit of a “catch up” – shared a bit about me and what I’ve been up to. HOWEVER, I decided to cut that part out. Mostly for the sake of length (nobody is going to listen for 20 minutes).

I think you’ll enjoy the final cut.

Episode 4 – Should We Be Worried About Artificial Intelligence?

I talk about:

  • Types of Artificial Intelligence
  • Who thinks we should be worried?
  • How long do we have?
  • (Length: 13mins12sec)

Have a listen and let me know what you think!

How many times throughout your life have you had a woman say something like, “For this to work I need some things to change.”

No doubt if you’ve thrown yourself to the wolves put yourself out there, tried and failed with women, then you’ve heard versions of the line above.

Not too long ago, I was given an ultimatum.

Exhibit A:

dcllive the talk.jpg

Here we go. Lets break this down some.

I always ask if you want to come over. I see you once a week, if I’m lucky.

I don’t mind this formula. Works for me.

…and at the beginning it was fine but now I’m starting to really like you and I want more.

You really like me. Have you ever considered that you like me, because you only see me once a week, because I’m not always available, and because you’re lucky (heh)?

More eh. What do you suppose “more” means fellas? More means time. More of me.

Women control sex. Men control commitment (make sure the first commitment is yourself).

I know you’re busy and everything with school and work, but like even just coming over every now and then and spending the night before school.

Yes I am busy. Again, that’s why you like me!

Idk I’m rambling I know I’m sorry I’m just upset and I want this to work but for it to work I need some things to change

And there it is guys. The beautiful cognitive dissidence.

(hey I’m guilty of that too sometimes)

Or perhaps she was on her period?

Regardless of the reason, it’s still nutter.

She likes me, but thinks I have to change. How the fuck doesn’t she see that, if I change she won’t like me anymore!

And also, why not change yourself if you think you want more? Why do I have to do anything?

Here was my response:

dcllive the talk 2.jpg

I don’t care anymore if a woman gives me an ultimatum.

What exactly am I losing? Pussy? Okay. There’s an app for that.

This sort of thing has happened to me in every relationship I’ve been in. I ‘make changes’ and the woman I’m with stops liking me.

Now I’m not blaming them for that. It was me who changed. But it sure is revealing to me how women can say conflicting things like this.

I know a bunch of you just went, “Ya no shit D. Women have been saying conflicting shit like this for centuries” and to that I say, you’re right.

But I’m the type of guy who needs to see and be a part of this RP stuff. I cannot just read about it and accept that it’s true. An RP lens on life is tough but necessary.

I tried my hardest to not come off as boyfriend material. She made several efforts to go on trips with me, eg. camping, road trip, and overnight in a hotel. All are fun things. But I didn’t want to be doing that in the middle of the semester. So I cancelled.

My reason was I was busy with school. Yes, it’s shitty when someone cancels plans with you, but hey, that’s life.

We would have great sex. She called me daddy. But there was no way in hell this broad was more than a sex friend. This is probably why.

She’s 21 and parties a lot. I cannot keep up with that. I’m okay with that.

I guess that’s the last time I’ll hear from….

..wait a minute, what’s that?

dcllive the talk 3.jpg

About four weeks later I get a, “Hey.”

No Contact Game is real.

I’ve been busy so, we’ll see if we hook up again. Only time will tell.

What did you guys think of my response?

What would you have said?

Have you guys ever had this happen to you as well?

Lets us know and spread the word in the comments below.

The Nervous Braindown Podcast: Episode 3 – Medical Research and Cancer with guest Florian (from

dcllive nervous braindown ep 3.jpg
Not a picture of Florian.

In this episode 3 of The Nervous Braindown I have a guest joining me. He is a blogger, a biochemist, and the owner of – Florian Ulrich

We talked for an hour and a bit. Before recording we chatted about the sphere, red pill, and Florian’s visit to the Gorilla Mindset Seminar.

In this episode we discuss cancer and cancer-research. I did my best to conduct an interview-type session. I tried not to interrupt or talk over Florian. Sometimes I did, but it is good practice for future episodes (I also had some beers while doing it. It’s all about having fun).

Here is some information I found on being a good interviewer: (taken from here)

  • “To help you do this, drop your presumptions and knowledge about the person you are interviewing and become your target audience. Then you will know what level of detail you need to dig out of the person you are interviewing.”
  • “If you rely on prepared questions so much that your mind isn’t open to diverging down different paths based on how your interview guest responds, your podcast can feel quite stunted. Being relaxed and enjoying the interview like a good conversation, engaging with what your subject is saying and showing real curiosity, is the key to a natural interview style.”
  • One final reminder that’s important for all you people out there who love to talk – the interview is not about you.
  • “You can add to the interview, briefly, by offering your own reinforcing story, or relevant comment, but don’t start interviewing yourself. I like to focus on two things as my role as the interviewer –
    • Asking the questions
    • Summarizing the answers”

I’m clearly still new to podcasting. Feel free to give me feedback on what you think I did well or things I need to improve on.

The first 48min of our Skype conversation is from Florian’s computer recoroded through his iPhone (this part I tried my best in post-production to get rid of the static-hiss sound, it’s the best I could do, the audio is low for the first part).

The last 18min of our Skype conversation is recorded from Florian’s iMac (this last part has a much better sound quality than the first part).

(also thanks to Beppo for telling me how to upload a long video to youtube)

Part 1 – iPhone
(first 48min)

  • Promises for research development (it’s all about the money)
  • The Golden Standard of scientific research
  • Treatments for cancers
  • Inflammation (acid reflux, Crohn’s disease)
  • Sequencing the genome (tailor made medications)
  • Using medical marijuana as a treatment (mentions Kratom)
  • The spread of cancer and the immune response (what’s going on at the cellular level ?)
  • Future health insurance bollocks! (“I see you have a gene that could potentially lead to cancer, we will NOT cover you.”)
  • Health Care systems (private vs universal)

Part 2 – iMac
(last 18min)

The Nervous Braindown! Podcast: Episode 1 – An Introduction

The Nervous Braindown – Episode 1 – Intro

“The Nervous Braindown is here to help you (and me) better understand this immensely complex organ.”

If you have been following my blog/twitter you know that I love the brain. I like it so much that I decided to dedicate some of my time to learning more about it.

Introducing a new podcast project of mine called, “The Nervous Braindown!”

“The Nervous Braindown is all about the Brain
We’ll cover topics related to the Brain such as: Psychedelics, The Universe, Technology, Gender, and many more.”

This is my first attempt at podcasting, and boy, have there been some mishaps, like:

  • talking for 5mins and then realizing Audacity was not recording
  • forgetting what I am talking about mid sentence
  • having the computer freeze and then cursing loud enough my roommate in the other room can hear me
  • not knowing how to upload to youtube

Those are minor missteps and the more I podcast the better I will get at it. And when it comes down to it, it is for education and fun, so I should not sweat it.

For this post, and future podcast-posts, I will share the podcast description and the script I use as well (unedited).

Without further ado, welcome to The Nervous Braindown!

  • Hello and Welcome To The Nervous Braindown!

  • I’m your host, “D” AKA The Dirty Dendrite

  • This is the first podcast (of many I hope)

  • The Nervous Braindown is all about the Brain

  • We’ll cover topics related to the Brain such as: Psychedelics, The Universe, Technology, Gender, and many more

  • Your Brain is…

  • the place where your dreams and goals are conjured up

  • the place where your nightmares and fears marinate

  • the place where your fantasies come to life

  • Your Brain is the most powerful tool in the universe! (as far as we know)

  • But here we are, us humans; stealing, kidnapping, assaulting, killing, and all that other fun stuff.

  • Despite our current knowledge of the Brain (which is a lot, but still not enough) we still fall victim to those bad behaviours.

  • How Did I Get So Interested in the Brain?

  • Well, like most people, I get bombarded with thoughts almost every waking moment (although I’m getting better at controlling the amount of thoughts using mindfulness strategies – which we’ll get into another time)

  • I don’t know about you but, in the morning when I’m in the shower and right when I’m falling asleep at night, are the times when I get hit with a lot of thoughts

  • Thoughts about the previous day (“did I get that thing done?”)

  • Thoughts about my to do list (“I gotta finish that task before I move to the next one.”

  • Thoughts about relationships (“what did my girlfriend mean when she said…”)

  • Or thoughts about my long-term future (“did I make the right decision to pursue this career?”

  • You name it, the thought has been there

  • You see, the Brain is a “Thinking Machine”

  • Its job is to think, non-stop

  • That’s why it can seem hopeless to manage the flow of thoughts

  • But it’s not hopeless

  • The Nervous Braindown is here to help you (and me) better understand this immensely complex organ

  • Together we’ll learn to manage our thoughts and get this sack of grey matter under control

  • Now I’ll share a bit about myself
    • I’m Canadian, currently living in Ontario
    • I’m 30 years old
    • Caucasian
    • I have a girlfriend
    • I live with a roommate
    • And I’m currently enrolled in college
    • (that should be good for now)
  • Before I end this short intro-episode, I’d like to give 2 shout-outs.
  • First, a writer and blogger by the name of Flurian Ulrich (#_____) aka “The Idea Machine, from
  • The other day on Twitter I posted a voting poll, asking people to vote for their favourite podcast name (for this podcast)
  • I also asked if anyone could think of any other cool name
  • Flurian, being “The Idea Machine” came up with 20 different names I could use for a podcast about the Brain.
  • I picked the one I liked the most – The Nervous Braindown
  • So thanks you to Flurian for coming up with a kick ass name for this podcast
  • Finally, I would also like to give shout-out to another writer/blogger by the name of Beppo Venerdi (#____) from
  • Cool podcast, for some reason I really enjoy just listening to him talk (no homo)
  • he could talking about his day and I would listen, he speaks very cleary and very well
  • Before I really got this podcast underway I wasn’t sure what topics it would be on.
  • I went on Twitter again and asked people to give any advice they had for a new podcaster, like myself
  • I initially was going to do a manosphere/RP focused podcast, but Beppo pointed out that I would be pigeon-holed if I did that. He’s right
  • So thank you to Beppo for the great advice
  • Next week I’ll talk about something called the “BRAIN Initiative” which is (definition taken from Wikipedia …”is a collaborative, public-private research initiative announced by the Obama administration on April 2, 2013, with the goal of supporting the development and application of innovative technologies that can create a dynamic understanding of brain function”
  • Sounds like fun
  • That’s all for now guys, thanks for listening
  • Have a great week, and “Stay Out of Trouble You Dirty Dendrites!”
